|Council adjusts firefighter, police starting pay|
The starting salary for Winnsboro police officers is going up, but the pay hike will mean that starting firefighters' pay is going down.
The Winnsboro City Council voted Monday night during their regular meeting to average the two salaries so that new police officers and new firefighters would be paid the same.
Currently, uncertified police officers' starting salary is $646.16 every two weeks and uncertified firefighters' starting salary is $848 every two weeks. Certified police officers are paid $739 every two weeks and certified firefighters are paid $961.54 every two weeks. Certified police officers also receive a $500 monthly stipend in Winnsboro.
