Vineyard Furniture closes its doors

Vineyard Furniture International has become another victim of a stagnant economy.

The Winnsboro Industrial Park plant, which assembled and distributed furniture to dealers across the United States, has shut down. The closure leaves about 30 people facing a job loss this Christmas season, said owner Ron Ashley.

Ashley said the plant once employed as many as 80 people, but he was forced to start laying people off a couple of years ago due to low orders brought about by the recession.
It's with great regret that the business that he started in 1996 is no more, he said.

"There is a lot of talk about the economy getting better, but I think if you talk to the average person in Middle America you won't find agreement that things are improving," Ashley said.
