A Winnsboro man was arrested for shooting out the back window of a city car used by Mayor Jackie Johnson, according to police.

Carlos J. Richardson, 27, 1508 Gum St., was taken into custody at his home last Saturday and charged with Criminal Damage to Property, Illegal Carry of a Firearm, Disobey Traffic Device, Resisting an Officer, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon and Discharging a Firearm on a Public Road after police responded to a complaint about someone firing a weapon on Gum Street.

Winnsboro Police Chief Lester Thomas Jr. said Richardson, who has a criminal past, claimed he was shooting the weapon indiscriminately in his back yard and accidentally hit the car.
"He didn't have anything against the mayor and was not aware he had shot the car," said Thomas.
