City receives grant to establish mentoring program

It helps for a child to have a shoulder to lean on and that's especially true when a young person has a parent serving time in prison.

With a $250,000 grant from the Administration of Children and Families, a division of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northeast Louisiana is expanding its services to Franklin Parish to give children with incarcerated parents a needed shoulder.

Big Brothers Big Sisters, the nation's largest donor and volunteer supported mentoring network, helps children of incarcerated parents by placing them in one-to-one relationships with adult mentors.
