Budget crisis heats up for La. schools

School officials across the state were informed last week that Gov. Jindal's plan to offset the budget cuts to higher education includes cutting some $147 million in federally granted money for K-12 education. State Superintendent of Education Paul Pastorek announced that Louisiana K-12 school districts would not be receiving the expected grant they were promised earlier this year.

According to a report from the Louisiana Association of Educators (LAE), the federal money was promised to the school districts through the Education Jobs Fund. The Jobs Fund is part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009

Jindal's administration will use the remaining funds to fill in education budget gaps next year, according to the report.
