Voters turnout for election

Voter turnout was high in Franklin Parish for last Tuesday's congressional and general races, according to election officials.

"We had 5,443 voters on Nov. 2, which is about 39 percent of our registered voters," said Franklin Parish Registrar of Voters Geneva Cupp.

In the election for mayor of the village of Baskin, Republican Jean Simmons Clark beat Independent Harvey Guimbellot. Clark received 48 votes, 57 percent of those who casts ballots, over Guimbellot, who got 36 votes.

In statewide elections, Republican Jay Dardenne received 57 percent of the vote over Democrat Caroline Fayard to become Louisiana's lieutenant governor.
