Franklin Medical Center lost over $180,000 this fiscal year, which isn't bad—relatively speaking, according to a recent audit.

A financial audit compiled by Lester, Miller and Wells, an Alexandria-based accounting firm, presented Thursday at a special-called meeting of the hospital's board of commissioners shows that FMC ranks as well nationally as 75 percent of rural hospitals. That's despite a $180,181 loss in net assets in the 2010 fiscal year, which ended on April 30.

"It's a hard time to be a rural hospital and a lot of them are struggling. The hospitals that are doing well are the ones that are receiving a lot of tax money that you aren't getting," Paul Delaney, a CPA with the firm, told the board.
