A new regional airport could be landing in northeast Louisiana.

Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) officials are planning to meet with the Franklin Parish Police Jury, the Caldwell Parish Police Jury and officials from Winnsboro and Columbia city governments to discuss the need for a regional airport, Franklin Parish officials said Thursday.

The matter was brought up by Bob Mears, a Franklin Parish Police Jury consultant from Downsville who also works with Caldwell Parish, at the Franklin Parish Police Jury's regular monthly meeting.

"Right now it's just in the planning stages, but I think it could be an opportunity for economic development for the area," Mears said.
