The Franklin Sun, which turns 154 years-old this week, has been named the Winnsboro-Franklin Parish Chamber of Commerce Business of the Month for October.

When the Sun, one of the oldest ongoing weekly newspapers in Louisiana, first opened its doors in 1856 Democrat James Buchanan— the man who would be succeeded by Abraham Lincoln—was just weeks away from defeating Whig Millard Fillmore to become the 15th president of the United States.

Twenty-nine presidents and eight wars later—including a civil war and two world wars—the Sun is still going strong.
