Flag retirement ceremony hosted by DAR

Members of Oakley Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution, assisted by VFW Post 3155, conducted a ceremony on Tuesday, September 21, to properly dispose of well-used American flags.

The program began at 9:30 a.m. in the Lowentritt Pavilion, Veterans Memorial Park, with members of American Legion Post 84 and other patriotic organizations also attending.

DAR Regent Charlotte White welcomed guests to the ceremony and thanked them for their patriotism in attending the flag retirement program. VFW member Owen White offered the opening prayer; Oakley DAR Flag Chairman Marian Johnson led the group in "The Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of the U.S. of America"; DAR Veterans Chairman Candy Massey led in singing the National Anthem; and Flag Chairman Marian Johnson read the poem "I Am Your American Flag."
