While the economy is still weak and the job market has not improved, scam artists are busier than ever, according to officials.
Investigators with the Franklin Parish Sheriff's Office say reports of telephone and mail scams are on the rise and urge the public to use caution when solicited through the telephone, mail and Internet.
"Scam artists prey on those who are most likely to fall for a scheme," said chief deputy Kevin Cobb.
"Their methods vary, and often used to target a specific age group. But absolutely no one is safe from their solicitation and we want everyone to be aware of this increasing problem."
Statistics taken from a 2008 survey reveal that the elderly are most susceptible to telephone and mail solicitations while children and young adults are more vulnerable to cyber crimes on the Internet.
