Franklin Academy drops season-opener

Franklin Academy dropped its season-opener against Central of Macon, Ms., 20-6 Friday.
"We had opportunities, but could not get a break," said Franklin coach Doyle Hassell.
"There were five key plays in the game, and they got all five of them. We only had one offensive possession in the second half."

Franklin's only score came on a 50-yard run by Taylor Gilley.

"We were down 8-6 and was running for a score when we fumbled inside the 5-yard line," Hassell said. "Then they recovered an onsides kick and went on to score. We got inside the 5 again and had our player run into another player. And then we had them at fourth-and-25 and our defensive player slips and they pick up the first down."

Rilyn Taylor rushed for 100 yards in the contest.

Chris Hassell completed a 50-yard pass to Ethan Vick.

Hassell lost freshman Ethan Long to a broken arm.

Besides Long, Cedric Allen suffered a knee injury and Vick injured his hand in a non-football accident.

Franklin plays at Tensas Friday. Tensas defeated Calvary 44-6 in its opener.

Tensas has one of the best teams in our league and they should be playing for another championship," Hassell said. "We've got to limit our mistakes and do our best to keep them from making the big plays. And we certainly cannot afford any more injuries."
