FA opens season with home game

Franklin Academy opens its 8-man football season with a home game against Macon Central Friday at 7 p.m.

Macon Central finished second in the North Division last year and lost to Tensas Academy 70-6 in a first-round playoff game.

"They only lost two kids from last year, so we fully expect them to be very competitive," said Franklin coach Doyle Hassell.

Franklin is coming off a 4-5 season in its first year in 8-man football.

"The kids know what to expect now and they know how important timing is on offense, not only in the passing game, but in the running game," Hassell said.

Franklin lost to Rebul 12-0 before defeating Park Place 16-14 in the Rebul Jamboree Thursday.
"We had three straight bad snaps in our first possession against Rebul and that put us in a hole," Hassell said. "When we got the snaps down, we moved the football. We have some penalties we had that we have to clean up."

In the win over Park Place, Chris Hassell completed a 25-yard scoring pass to Cedric Allen as the buzzer sounded to end the first half. Kade Armstrong ran in the conversion.

Hassell teamed up with Ethan Vick on a 7-ayrd TD pass in the second half and freshman Chris
Duke ran in the conversion.

Hassell was 4-of-9 for 120 yards.

Rylin Taylor had six carries for 50 yards.
