posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
It was Winnsboro, Louisiana's first time ever to make it to the World Series in the Dixie Darlings League. The series was played in Denison, Texas last week.

They were undefeated in District and in State. Winnsboro is the State Champs for 7-8 year old girls.

The team included Gracie King, Maddie Wright, Rachel Philips, Kaylee Martin, Jaiden Oliver, Morgan Pierce, Kara Wilcher, Mary Clark, Madison Lowe, Madison Parker, Madison Thomas and Morgan Cruse.

Coaches were Josh Martin, Scott Wilcher, Mark King and Adam Wright.

1st Game
Louisiana vs. Texas
13-3
The theme of the whole night appeared to have been strong at the start then hold off the charge. Once again this game proved to be no different as Louisiana jumped the gate like "Louisiana Downs" and held off every charge Texas could muster 13-3. With fantastic play from Jaidyn Oliver, Morgan Pierce, and Rachel Philips, Louisiana started strong and finished late to win.

2nd Game
Alabama vs. Louisiana
7-5
In the most entertaining game of the night, Alabama and Louisiana squared off in a winner's bracket duel. Early hitting by Gracie King, Mary Clark, and Kaylee Martin got Louisiana to a 4-0 lead. The defense, led by Rachel Philips, Kara Wilcher, and King, held Alabama at bay through most of the game.

3rd Game
Louisiana vs. Georgia
7-0
Georgia could not get the bats rolling in this one, and Louisiana found enough hits in the tough Georgia defense to win 7-0. After an early two hits by Gracie King and Maddie Wright, Louisiana found itself up quickly 2-0. Louisiana answered defense with defense with outstanding plays by Kara Wilcher and Morgan Cruse. The Georgia bats just could not get going. Louisiana closed the door with added runs by Mary Clark, Madison Parker, and Madison Lowe twice to put the game away.

4th Game
Louisiana vs. Virginia
22-15
Intensity was the word between these two great Darlings team of the 2010 World Series. Some get better with age, some players need to stay right where they are. In this case, these girls could be good forever. Louisiana brought its best game early with a huge 7 run first. A triple by Maddie Wright, then doubles by Kaylee Martin and Rachel Philips seemed to get the "Who Dat?" crowd a buzzing.
Then Louisiana answered again with run runs by Jaidyn Oliver, Kara Wilcher, Morgan Pierce, and Mary Clark. The overall play of Gracie King again helped Louisiana keep moving with a 4-4 Performance and stellar defense. Louisiana held on to win 22-15.
