UPDATE: The La. All-Stars (Winnsboro Dixie Darlings) have now won two games and lost only one in a double-elimination tournament at the Dixie Darlings World Series. Tuesday night they won over Georgia, 22-15. The game time Wednesday is 6:30 in Denison, Texas against either Tenn. or Alabama. At this point the Winnsboro team is ranked #3 in the world. If they win the game tonight they will play tomorrow night in the final game of the tournament.

The Winnsboro All-Star Dixie Darlings continue their quest for a Dixie Darlings World Series championship in a tournament in Denison, Texas this week.

Winnsboro won their opening game of the tournament 13-3 on Saturday. On Sunday, Alabama beat the local squad in a classic offensive battle, 7-5. Winnsboro won the state tournament two weeks ago to give Franklin Parish there first state title since the 1950s.

The team consists of some of the top Dixie Youth softball talent in Franklin Parish including: Morgan Pierce, Kaylee Martin, Jayden Oliver, Kara Wilcher, Madison Thomas and Gracie King, Morgan Cruise, Madison Lowe, Maddie Wright, Mary Elizabeth Clark, Madison Parker and Rachel Philips.

The team competes in the 7-9 year old division. Head coach Josh Martin along with assistants Scott Wilcher, Adam Wright, and Mark King have coached the girls to a 17-0 mark following the opening round victory on Saturday.

If the Dixie Darlings complete the sweep through the World Series, it would bring the first Dixie Darlings softball championship to Franklin Parish. The team first appeared in the World Series when they hosted the event in 1984.

Monday night saw the Darlings defeat Georgia, 7-0.

On Tuesday at 7:30 they were slated to play Texas. If the Darlings win this game they will be in the finals.

The 2010 Dixie Darlings World Series will conclude on Thursday night.
