Young swimmer turns hero
posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
Eight-year-old Kyler Parker of Wisner is more than just a great swimmer, he's a life-saver.

He was spending time at a relative's home in Winnsboro on Thursday as his 2-year-old cousin, Serenity Jordan, slipped into a swimming pool.

It's uncertain how long the girl was under water, but as soon as Kyler saw her at the bottom of the pool, he wasted no time in coming to her rescue.

"I jumped in and turned around and got her," he said.

None of the eight adults at the party noticed that the girl had fallen in, but they rushed to revive her once Parker brought her limp body to the surface.

Although it was almost too late, the girl was rushed to Franklin Medical Center where she spent the night recuperating from her near-death experience, said Charlie Parker, Kyler's father.

"The doctor said that if she would have been under a second longer, she would be dead.
She had a lot of water in her lungs," Charlie Parker said.

Kyler's father says he is extremely proud of his son who "can swim just like a fish" and his family has rewarded the young hero by showering him with gifts and gratitude since the incident.

"I got a skateboard and a lot of little guns," he said.
