Former WHS bandmates to reunite, honor Stanley

A reunion of members of the Winnsboro High School band under the direction of Larry R. Stanley has been scheduled for September 18th in Winnsboro.

Stanley served as the director of the WHS band for 12 years from 1966-77, and currently resides in Simsboro. He will be the guest of honor at the event.

The gathering honoring Stanley will be held on Saturday afternoon, September 18, with a reception from 2-5 p.m. at the Jackson Street Guest House located at 803 Jackson Street in Winnsboro. The house is located directly east of the Franklin Parish Courthouse.

Former band members, as well as friends from his days in Winnsboro, are encouraged to attend.
"Larry Stanley touched many lives in a positive way during his 12 years at Winnsboro High School, and we're excited about honoring him," said an event spokesperson. "This had been talked about for a number of months before a group of his former students still living in the area finally got together and started making plans."

During his tenure at Winnsboro, Stanley's bands consistently won championship honors in both concert and marching performance on the district and state levels, and his 1969-70 band from Winnsboro High School captured third-place national marching honors at the St. Petersburg (Florida) Festival of States in April, 1970.

Stanley left Winnsboro in 1977 and went to Airline High School in Bossier City before finally retiring as a band director in the 1990s. Several years after his retirement, Stanley commuted to Winnsboro and directed the Franklin Parish Community Band for several performances.
