The 53rd Annual Deep South PRCA begins its three day run at the arena on Loop Road, July 29-31, beginning at 8 p.m. nightly. This year's event will be held in memory of James Marvin "Daddy Bo" Fletcher, a key player in bringing the rodeo to Winnsboro over half a century ago.

Fletcher, who passed away on New Year's Eve last year at the age of 69, was a retired educator and long-time rodeo enthusiasts who helped relocate the rodeo arena in Delhi to Winnsboro, setting the stage for the Deep South PRCA in the late 1950s.

"He always was a cowboy and they needed a rodeo in Winnsboro and he put it together and got it rolling. He obviously did a good job at it because it's still going on," said his son, Scott Fletcher.

Jeff Moore, president of the Deep South Pro Rodeo Cowboys Association Committee said holding the rodeo in honor of Fletcher is a way to not only acknowledge his work, but the work of the entire Fletcher family in helping make the rodeo such a success in Winnsboro.

"We are just proud and honored to be able to dedicate this year's rodeo to Daddy Bo Fletcher for all his past years of him promoting the rodeo with not only his own participation, but with having two sons who went on to great careers in rodeo," said Moore.

Rodeo Week festivities will begin with the annual parade through historic downtown Winnsboro on Thursday, July 29 at 4 p.m.

Franklin Parish Sheriff Steve Plyant will serve as this year's grand marshal.

The annual event will feature top Classic Pro Rodeo stock owned by Scotty Lovelace of Waskom, Texas.

This year's rodeo festivities will feature a Saturday night dance contest with professional rodeo clown, Rudy Burns. The top 10 dancers from two rounds of competition during the youth rodeo will take center stage with brightly-clad Burns for a Western hoe-down.

The Deep South PRCA Committee members will once again be taking donations for breast cancer research through their "Tough Enough to Wear Pink" campaign.

Pink buckets will be placed at rodeo vendor booths and concession stands for audience contributions.

Advanced tickets for the rodeo are $9 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under and can be purchased at Sullivan's Feed and Western Wear and Dennis Crain Dodge in Winnsboro.

General admission prices are $11 for adults and $6 for children 12 and under.

Sponsor Winnsboro Equipment will offer discounts on all products including John Deere euipment with lower then dealer prices. Other corporate sponsors include Dennis Crain Dodge, Croplan Genetics and the Louisiana Lottery.

The Deep South PRCA Rodeo is part of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association's Southern Circuit, which includes Louisiana, Arkansas, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia and Florida.
