The Winnsboro Pre-Majors are playing on in the regional tournament this week in Winnsboro looking to punch their ticket to the Pre-Majors World Series to played the weekend of July 24 in Guntersville, Ala.

The Winnsboro squad opened the tournament with a 12-0 loss to Bossier Parish American on Saturday. Errors in the field hampered the squad in making any kind of momentum against Bossier.

"I think we were too ready to play," Winnsboro head coach Kevin Bass said. "We were tight. Nearly everybody made an error. We just played bad."

The Winnsboro squad awoke with a sense of urgency on Monday as they crushed the Morehouse Parish All-Star team 10-0 in just five innings.

Ethan Bass got the scoring going with a third inning home run and added a single and double later in the game to lead Winnsboro at the plate.

"We loosened up and played better baseball," Bass said. "You could see a difference."

Cameron Harper, Ethan Vick, Tyler Lively, and Mason Lyles each hit a double for Winnsboro. Lyles who was dominating on the mound as the winning pitcher for Winnsboro, gave up just three hits and fanned seven Morehouse batters over five innings of work to earn the victory.

The tournament will continue through Thursday with the top two teams advancing to represent Louisiana in the World Series later this month.

The state of Georgia will not send a team this year which opened up a slot for one state to send an extra squad. With Louisiana winning the Pre-Majors World Series in 2009, the state will be allowed to send its No. 2 team from the state tournament to Alabama.
