Emily Collins, a native of Winnsboro, has been named Most Valuable Player, while playing softball for the Lady Bulldogs of Holmes Community College in Goodman, Miss.

Collins, a 19 year-old 2009 graduate of Franklin Academy who pitches and plays third base for the Lady Bulldogs, was also selected for the National Junior College Athletics Association All-State team.

"She is a great team player and a great student who has a 3.8 GPA and that says a lot. We look forward to having her back next year as a sophomore," said Holmes Community Softball Coach Rick Casey.

Collins, a freshman, earned 98 strike outs in 178 balls thrown for the season. She had a 2.6 Earned Run Average in 33 games played, racking up a record 10 games-pitched wins for the team.
