'Slip 'N Slide' baseball camp starting May 31 Water, in the form of rain, usually means the end of a baseball game, but water is part of the game at Patriot Baseball Camp.
"Probably the most popular thing we've done since we started the camp three years ago is Slip 'N Slide baseball. The boys get to play baseball by the normal rules, but the only way to advance to the next base is by sliding on a Slip 'N Slide," said Franklin Parish High School baseball coach Lynn Middleton.
The camp starts Monday, May 31 and will run until June 3. Middelton will teach the camp, assisted by coached Rick Berry and Curt Curtis, with a little help from several Patriot players.
The camp will start every morning at 8 a.m. and games will be played around 11 a.m. each day. Parents are invited to the games, said Middleton.
Campers will be organized by age and will rotate through stations to learn a variety of baseball techniques. Topics to be covered include pitching, hitting, base running, bunting, sliding, throwing and fielding. Players should bring gloves, helmets, cleats and a swimming suit.
"Fun activities are planned for every day after camp is over," Middleton said. "On Wednesday, campers will go to the swimming pool and the other three days are reserved for Slip 'N Slide baseball."
It will cost $100 to join the camp, with proceeds going for park renovations and upgrades. Registration forms are available at Winnsboro Sports, 3828 Front Street, or online at www.jphsbaseball.com |
