FA tennis team comes up short on qualfying Franklin Academy's tennis team came up short in qualifying anyone for the MAIS State A Tennis Tournament at the South A State Tennis Match in Natchez last month.
In No. 1 boys singles, Franklin's Britt Grieme defetaed Mark Iles of Trinity 4-6, 6-2 (10-5) before falling to Casper Wansley of Laurel Christian 6-1, 6-0 in the South State semifinals.
Dakota Stephens of Franklin fell to Connor Smith of University Christian by default.
In No. 1 girls singles, Lindy Carroll advanced to the semifinals by defeating Emory Smith of Trinity 6-1, 6-1 before falling to Newton's Anna Sprauer 6-0, 6-0.
In No. 2 girls singles, Franklin's Ashton Armstrong fell to Riverfield's Abby Ryan 6-2, 6-3.
In No. 1 boys doubles, Franklin's Rilyn Taylor and Ryan Sullivan fell to Rush Capdepon and Farrel Keahay 6-3, 6-2.
Franklin's No. 2 boys doubles team of Kyle Sullivan and Chas Gravelle lost out to Ken Harpe Davis and Graham Yeatman of University Christian, 6-1, 6-1.
In No. 1 girls doubles, Franklin's Lauren Guice and Kallie Etheridge defeated Newton's Anne Henderson and Savanna Smith 6-0, 6-1 before falling to Tallulah's Emory Dukes and Katie Book 6-4, 7-5.
In No. 2 girls doubles, Franklin's Kelly Kiper and Nikki Erwin defeated Tallulah's Brelynne Shivers and Morgan Harris 6-2, 6-1 before falling to University Christian's Erin Whitney and Olivia Watts 6-2, 4-6, 6-2.
In mixed doubles, Franklin's Dillon Carroll and Hillary Herron defeated Tallulah's Wade Grady and Chelsea Keene 6-1, 6-4 before falling to Taylor Long and Gabrielle Gandy of Riverfield 6-0, 6-0. |
