Story Archives: St. John's ends Delhi Gator's plans

St. John's ends Delhi Gator's plans

The No. 9 Delhi Charter Gators (15-15) saw their varsity baseball season come to an end on Monday night with a 19-9 defeat at the hands of No. 8 St. John's High School in Plaquemine.

The Gators fell behind the offensive minded St. John team yet never would lie down for the higher seed on the road.

The Gators belted out some key hits to stay in the game, but the powerful offense of St.

John became too much to handle in the end. Third baseman Hunter Simms and first baseman Hunter Pruitt led the offensive charge all season for the Gators.

Shortstop Rob Simmons and designated hitter Cody Issac also gave the Gators solid offensive production this season.

While some flew under the radar, the Gators had a roster full of key contributors that would go on to post 15 wins in 2010 and earn a top 10 ranking for the Louisiana High School Athletic Association Class 1A playoffs.

With the top of the batting order peppered with senior leadership it was little surprise that the Gators found success on the field this season.

2011 will see some of the names change, but the goal will remain the same: win a very competitive district 2-1A. It is a challenge that the Gators are ready to embrace even now, as returning players look forward to a bright future on the diamond at DCS.
