Story Archives: Gators final games rained out

Gators final games rained out
posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
Severe weather wrecked havoc on the final playing dates of the regular season for the Delhi Charter Gators. The Gators saw games against the Caldwell Parish Spartans and the Sterlington High School Panthers rained out.

With the games cancelled, the Gators end the regular season on a three-game losing streak that included a string of losses to the Cedar Creek School Cougars. Cedar Creek School won the first game in impressive fashion by posting a 8-1 victory. The Gators played better defense but went cold on offense as the Cougars posted a 5-0 victory over the Gators to win the series.

The Cedar Creek School offense exploded in the third and final game of the series. Cedar Creek got big hits in each inning to post 15-3 win in five innings. The game was a stark contrast to the DCS series against the Delhi Bears. In that series, DCS scored 34 runs in that three-game set.

Now the Gators will wait and see what the official Louisiana High School Athletic Association Class 1A playoff bracket has in store for the Gators. The Gators are currently ranked No. 9 in latest power ranking projections.

DCS has a power point total of 21.21 while fellow district 2-1A foe Oak Grove is No. 10 with a total of 21.19. Cedar Creek, the district 2-1A champion is ranked fifth and Ouachita Christian School is No. 7 in the power rankings as of press time. 2-1A will be one of the only districts in the state to have five teams hosting first-round playoff games next week.

Possible first-round opponents for the Gators include Merryville, Oberlin, and Block among others. Some teams around the state will finish their regular season schedules this weekend and early next week the teams will all learn their playoff fates in each classification.
