Patriots waiting for playoff schedule The Franklin Parish Patriots (15-21, 5-10 district 3-4A) will be awaiting their playoff fate as teams around the state wrap up their regular season schedules this weekend. The Patriots are currently sitting at No. 29 in the latest LHSAA power point projections. The top 32 teams in each classification qualify for the playoffs. The Patriots will be on the road during the first round of the playoffs if they can maintain one of the top 32 spots in the power ranking system.
Potential first-round opponents for the Patriots as of press time include district rival Neville in Monroe as well as south Louisiana Vanderbilt Catholic School and Benton from northwestern Louisiana. The current projections are likely to change by the time the official bracket is released next week and the first-round matchup for the Patriots is made official.
FPHS is in the midst of a six game losing streak at this time. The Patriots were swept by No. 9 Ruston High School last week and outscored 32-0 by the Bearcats. Ruston won the first and third games in the series by a score of 10-0 while winning the middle game in the series by a count of 12-0. The Patriot offense has gone ice cold in the last week as the Patriots have gone four consecutive games without scoring a run. By contrast, West Ouachita and Ruston have averaged 10.5 runs per game against the pitching staff from Franklin Parish.
Brian Moroni is leading the Patriots at the plate with a solid batting average of .355 while Trent Williams is hitting .329 and Kameron Harper is batting .324 this season. Moroni has hit six doubles and four triples this season while recording 23 RBIs. Williams leads the Patriots in run production with 35 RBIs and four doubles of his own during the 2010 campaign.
Mason Liles continuies to pace the Patriot pitching staff with a 3.89 earned run average. |
