Brass celebrates 90th birthday

Mrs. Virgie Mae Brass celebrated her 90th birthday on March 25, 2010 at the Charlyn Rehabilitation and Nursing Facility. The theme was "Blessings and Miracles From God Still Happening" based on the scripture Genesis 17:17, because just as God blessed Sarah with the miracle of conceiving a child at the age of ninety, He has blessed and performed miracles for Mrs. Brass through the different stages of her life.

Guests were served a special birthday dinner of her favorite foods: turnip greens, butter beans and okra, cornbread, sweet potatoes, grilled and fried chicken, turkey breast and tea and punch. A birthday cake in the shape of a Bible was enjoyed by all for dessert. After the dinner, gifts were opened and birthday cards were read from family and President Barack Obama and the First Lady Michelle Obama.

Those attending were her three daughters, Bessie L. Crockett and Ella M. Washington, Winnsboro and Audrey L. Wilson, Indianapolis, IN; granddaughter, Cynthia R. Benson and great-great grandson, Terrence D. Harrington of Indianapolis; sons-in-law, Eddie L. Crockett and Walter L. Washington; nieces, Joanna Ellis, and Olivia Williams of Monroe and Lucille Ellis, Winnsboro; Barbara Rollins and Addie S. Bolton.
