Delhi Charter Gators in district play Thursday
posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
The Delhi Charter School Gators (13-12) will return to the baseball field on Thursday at 6 p.m. when they visit the Cedar Creek School Cougars. The district 2-1A contest will mark the last district series of the 2010 season for DCS.

The Gators have righted the ship considerably over the last week and have won four of their last six games overall.

Possibly their most important success of the season came against cross-town rival Delhi High School last week. The Gators earned a three-game sweep over the Bears with a 13-1 victory on Saturday afternoon.

In all, DCS outscored Delhi 34-10 over the three-game set. The lone setback of the week for the Gators game in a non-district tilt against the Class 4A Bastrop Rams in which the Gators fell 13-7. Hunter Simms continues to be the pace car at the plate for the Gators.
Simms revved his offensive engine for another multiple hit performance in the victory over Delhi.

Cody Issac and Hunter Pruitt have also shown to be hard hitting and dependable offensive threats for DCS this season.

The schedule certainly does not get any easier for DCS this week. The Gators now travel to the top-ranked Class 1A team in all of Louisiana when facing Cedar Creek tonight.

The Cougars have set themselves up to easily qualify for the playoffs and could wrap up a district championship with a series win over Delhi Charter and a loss by Ouachita Christian School of Monroe. OCS is currently ranked No. 4 in the latest Louisiana Baseball Coaches Association polls released last week.

Cedar Creek (19-4) has won 14 of their last 16 outings. the Cougars lost 2-of-3 games to OCS last weekend for their only losses since a tournament loss to Sacred Heart on March 6.
