FA Cougars fall to Riverfield, 12-1

Franklin Academy faces Claiborne and Riverdale this week with hopes of clinching second place in MAIS District 7A this week.

The Cougars fell to Riverfield 12-1 Friday.

Riverfield can clinch the district with a win over Claiborne.

Franklin defeated Central 20-0 on April 6.

"We bascially control our won destiny," said Franklin coach Chris Sullivan. "If we beat Claiborne and Riverdale we are in the playoffs. If we lose to one of them, it will come down to a tiebreaker."

Against Riverfield, Logan Moore and Jason Jarrette hit back to back homers in the third inning to get the Raiders out to an early 5-1 lead.

Riverfield scored three more in the fourth, one in the 5th, and three more in the 7th to put the game away.

"I pulled our starter (Caleb Kratzer) there because we didn't have to beat Riverfield to make the playoffs and he had thrown 98 pitches," Sullivan said. "They had three Texas League hits and real good hits after that. It's just the wheels came off in the fifth inning."

If Franklin finishes second, the Cougars will face the second place team from District 6A, which holds a district tournament Thursday and Friday at Huntington.

Trinity is in first place in that district, with Tensas second and Huntington in third place.
"We just have to play good ball and everything will take care of itself," Sullivan said.
