posted 4/13/10 Kathlyn Goforth Funeral services for Miss Kathlyn Goforth, a retired teacher, will be held on Wednesday, April 14, 2010 at Baskin Presbyterian Church at 2 p.m. Officiating the service will be Rev. John Albright, assisted by Rev. Mary Ann Collie and Elder John Guice. Interment will follow at Crowville Masonic Cemetery under the direction of Gill First National Funeral Home. Miss Goforth passed from this life on Sunday, April 11, 2010 at Franklin Medical Center. She was born on December 10, 1918 at Carson, Mississippi to the union of Mr. and Mrs. Monroe Goforth who preceeded her in death. She is survived by her constant friend and caregiver, John Kenner Bell. She is also survived by her church family and her many students who loved and admired her and several cousins. Miss Goforth was a graduate of Louisiana Tech and taught school at Baskin for many years and was adored by all who knew her. Many of her former students were frequent visitors in her declining years. She was one of the first women to be ordained to the office of elder in the Presbyterian Church, U.S.A. and served on many divisions and committees of higher governing bodies of the church. In her earlier years, she served as a counselor at summer church camp. She was a faithful Sunday School Teacher and pianist at Baskin Presbyterian. She enjoyed her many years as a member of Baskin Women's Club where she was a charter member. Pallbearers will be Tommy Coronado, William "Bo" Fletcher, Johnny Lawrence, Ronnie Lawrence, James Mock and Edward Roberts. In lieu of flowers memorials to Evergreen Presbyterian School, 2010 Highway 80, Haughton, LA 71037. Visitation will be Wednesday 1 p.m. until time of service. Lucille H. Horton Funeral services for Lucille Harrington Horton, 81, of Wisner will be held Saturday, April 17, 2010 at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, Wisner, at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Hope Estate Cemetery in Wisner, under the direction of Richardson Funeral Home. Mrs. Horton died Wednesday, April 7, 2010, at Mary Anna Nursing Home.
Daniel R. "Big Mac" Mathews Funeral services for Mr. Daniel R. Mathews, 53, were held Friday April 9, 2010 at the chapel of Gill First National Funeral Home with the Rev. Paul Perry officiating. Burial followed at Harris Cemetery. Mr. Mathews was born on April 13, 1956 in Wisner, and died on April 7, 2010 at Franklin Medical Center after a sudden illness. He was a resident of Franklin Parish and a retired farmer. He is preceded in death by his mother Blanche Welch Mathews and a special nephew Michael Mathews Sr. Survivors include his father John D. Mathews; brothers: Larry Mathews and wife Nellie, Johnny Mathews and wife Kimberly, and James Phillip Mathews all of Winnsboro; also survived by nieces, nephews and a special niece Karsyn Mathews. Jessie Milton Funeral services for Jessie Milton, 74, of Wisner were held Saturday, April 10, 2010, at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Wisner. Burial followed at Hope Estate in Wisner, under the direction of Richardson Funeral Home. Mr. Milton died Thursday, April 1, 2010, at his home. Survivors include his life long companion, Viney Davis, Wisner; sons, Eddie R. Milton, Dallas, Texas; Jessie Milton Jr., Sicily Island; daughter, Jean Milton Plater, Wisner; sister, Katherine Swayzer, Detroit, Mich.; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were Donald Higgs, Jimmie Stewart, Andre Stewart, Roderick Hilliard, Ronald Stewart, Carl Stewart, Willie Milton and LaJerrick Hilliard.
Joyce Pearl Tisdale Funeral services for Joyce Pearl Tisdale, 79, of Wisner, LA were held at Young's Community Memorial Funeral Home on Monday, April 12, 2010, with Rev. Thomas Peoples officiating. Burial followed at Holly Grove Cemetery under the direction of Young's Community Memorial Funeral Home in Winnsboro. Mrs. Tisdale was born March 2, 1931 in Wisner, and passed away Saturday, April 10, 2010 at Cornerstone Hospital in West Monroe. She was a retired school teacher, teaching the second grade for 33 and a half years in the Franklin Parish School System, and a member of the First Baptist Church of Wisner. Mrs. Tisdale was also an accomplished musician. She performed in the opera in her younger days and continued her love of music by performing and teaching the piano. She was preceded in death by her father, Daniel Warner Tisdalem mother, Grace Jeanette (Ferrington) Tisdale; brothers: Walter Tisdale and Charles Tisdale. Survivors include two sisters-in-law: Irma Tisdale and Ann Tisdale, both of Ferriday; and a host of nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were friends of the family: Danny Tisdale, Garrett Tisdale, Tim Tisdale, Aaron Tisdale, Mike Watson, and Mike Caldwell. Mrs. Wilson was born November 2, 1930 in Earle, Ark. and passed away Monday, April 12, 2010 at University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. She was a resident of Sicily Island, a homemaker, and a very loving mother. She was preceded in death by her husband, H.B. Wilson; father, James Frank Needham, mother, Bessie Bailey Needham; daughter, Linda Kay Ready; three brothers: Clarence Lawhorn, James Lewis Needham and Joseph Needham.
