FPHS on winning streak
posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
The Franklin Parish Patriots (13-13) will be in Monroe on Thursday evening to begin a three-game district 3-4A series against the Neville Tigers at 6 p.m.

The Patriots have won five-games in a row since breaking out of a three-game slide two weeks ago.

The Patriots romped over the Wossman Wildcats for a three-game sweep over the weekend. The Patriots beat Wossman 20-0 on Thursday in five innings and again in the first game of a double-header Saturday. The Patriots finished off the sweep with a dominating performance during the third game, a 15-1 FPHS victory.

The win streak was started last Tuesday when the Patriots blasted past Kilbourne High School, 13-0.

The Patriots have outscored their opponents 68-1 over the last four contests. Chris Austin leads FPHS at the plate with a .375 batting average. Kameron Harper and Trent Dooley have also been swinging a hot bat as of late. Harper is batting .370 while Dooley is hitting at a clip of .344.

Mason Liles has been the ace of the staff and sports a 3.03 earned run average after picking up another district win this weekend.

Matt Parks is second on the team with a 4.50 ERA. Parks and Liles are the lone pitchers on the FPHS staff with an ERA below 5.13.

Neville has won five of their last eight contests. The Tigers lost two-of-three district games to the West Ouachita Chiefs last weekend in Monroe.

Neville got multiple timely hits and was efficient with runners in scoring position only to lose the game with poor defense and huge hits by West Ouachita.

Neville took game one of the series, 12-11. The Chiefs then scored 17 runs over the course of the last two games to take the series.

Neville lost game two, 9-7 and stopped in the rubber match, 8-6. Neville pitching has been suspect as of late. The Tigers are giving up nine runs per game over their last five outings including 20 runs in a three-game series two weeks ago against another district rival of FPHS, the Ruston Bearcats.

Franklin Parish and Neville will conclude the series with a double-header to be played on Saturday at noon in Winnsboro.
