Posted 3/30/10 Alice Allen Funeral services for Alice Allen, 84, of Winnsboro will be held Saturday, April 3, 2010 at 11 a.m. at St. John Baptist Church, Winnsboro, with the Rev. E.J. McFarland officiating. Burial will follow at Sims-Gethsemane Cemetery under the direction of Richardson and Sims Funeral Home, Winnsboro. Mrs. Allen died Saturday, March 27, 2010, at Glenwood Regional Medical Center, following a lengthy illness. Survivors include three daughters, Leola Allen Thomas and Beverly Allen Tarver, both of Winnsboro; Louvenia Allen Revels of Monroe; three sons, Oliver Allen, Hayti, Mo.; John Allen IV, Baton Rouge; Larry Allen, Winnsboro; 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were Anthony Neal, Wesley Neal, Sam Moore III, Robert Swayzer III, Eugene Mathis, Mitchell Wilson, Elvin Wilson, Leo Lamar Wilson, Andra Johnson.
Sylvia McVay Chapman Funeral services for Sylvia McVay Chapman, 72, of Winnsboro, were held at Lamar Baptist Church on Saturday, March 27, 2010, with Rev. Terry Ganey and Rev. Jason Lupo officiating. Burial followed at Crowville Masonic Cemetery under the direction of Young's Community Memorial Funeral Home in Winnsboro. Mrs. Chapman was born May 10, 1937 in Franklin Parish, and passed away Thursday, March 25, 2010 at her residence in Winnsboro. She was a homemaker from Crowville, and a member of the Lamar Baptist Church where she served as Sunday School teacher and church clerk. She was preceded in death by her father, Huey McVay, mother, Dorothy (Taylor) McVay; son, Kenny Chapman; granddaughter, Allison Chapman. Survivors include her husband, Billy Joe Chapman of Crowville; two brothers: Jerry McVay and wife Ann of Florence, Ala., and Donnie McVay of Jefferson, Texas; two sons: Darwin Chapman and wife Robin of Delhi, and Daren Chapman and wife Lee Ann of Crowville; daughter, Karen Thornhill and husband Paul of Crowville; daughter-in-law, Dewanna Thomas of Crowville; grandchildren: Cody, Tyler, and Caleb Chapman of Crowville; Kristina Chapman of Delhi; Adrienne, Lydia, and Laura Jo Chapman of Crowville; Kyle Thornhill of Crowville; great-grandchildren: Mark and Luke Stroud of Gilbert; and a host of friends and family. Pallbearers were Tracy Higdon, Willie B. Walker, Billy Gene Allen, Ben Hammons, Allen Ogden, and Steve Chapman. Honorary Pallbearers were Henry Till, Kenny Dunham, J.T. Thames, and Gary Ezell. Claud Allen Ezell Services for Claud Allen Ezell, age 79, of Winnsboro, were held Sunday, March 28, 2010 in the Chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home of Winnsboro, with Craig McCain officiating. Burial followed in Oak Grove Cemetery under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home of Winnsboro. Mr. Ezell was a graduate of Winnsboro High School, Louisiana Tech University, Mississippi College with additional graduate work at Northeast Louisiana State University, now ULM. He was an educator and administrator for over 30 years, all in Franklin Parish. He was an avid hunter and golfer, retired school principal and farmer, always concerned about children's education. He was also a veteran of the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford A. and Minniebell Ezell. Mr. Ezell passed away on Thursday, March 25, 2010. Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Bobbie Oakes Ezell of Winnsboro; four children: Dr. Jerry G. Ezell and wife Carol of Delhi; J. Garwin Ezell of West Monroe; Jennifer G. Ezell of Winnsboro; J. Gay Ezell of West Monroe; two grandchildren: Elaine and Callie Ezell of Delhi. Pallbearers were Mike Williamson, Ricky Campbell Sr., Ricky Campbell Jr., Jonathan Campbell, Chansey Campbell, Daren Herrington, and Todd Guimbellot. Honorary Pallbearers were Jim McClelland, Jimmy Guice, Jim Shell, and Buddy Tatum. Ruth Ellerbe Grub Services for Ruth Ellerbe Grube, 79, of Winnsboro, were held Tuesday, March 30, 2010 at North Central Baptist Church near Delhi, with Rev. Eddie Fuller officiating. Burial followed in Grube Family Cemetery near Delhi, under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home Rayville. Mrs. Grube passed away March 28, 2010. She was a member of North Central Baptist Church and was retired as teachers aide. Mrs. Grube was preceded in death by her parents William Carey and Annie Laura Ellerbe; her husband Marion Grube; three sisters: Celida Tyler, Lucille McDaniel and Cleo Troha; as well as one brother, Edward Ellerbe. She is survived by her daughter, Beth Grube Fuller and her husband Danny of Delhi; grandson, Daniel Fuller of Delhi; one sister, Gladys Thornhill of Winnsboro; and one brother-in-law, J. C. Tyler of Winnsboro; and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were Richard Douciere, Billy Burns, Edward Ellerbe Jr., Michael Ellerbe, Chandler Wright and Tony Haring. Dorothy A. Hitt Services for Dorothy A. Hitt, 88, were held Friday at New Zion Baptist Church with Rev. Ben Jordan and Rev. Tommy Bosco officiating. Burial followed at the church cemetery under the direction of Gill First National Funeral Home. Mrs. Hitt was born on July 26, 1921 and died on Wednesday, March 24, 2010 at Franklin Medical Center Winnsboro. She was a resident of Winnsboro, retired cafeteria employee with Winnsboro High School and a longtime member of New Zion Baptist Church. She is preceded in death by her husband Fred Hitt Jr.; son Arviel Earl Hitt; parents Cary and Lone Magee Albritton; brother Bill Albritton; and a grandson Gary Wayne Hitt. Survivors include her daughters: Betty Parker and husband George T., Belinda Hatten and husband Edmond "Ed" all of Winnsboro; brother Carl Albritton of Jackson, Miss.; sister Lucy Lawrence of West Monroe; also six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Raymond L. Rushing Jr. Funeral service for Raymond L. "Ray" Rushing Jr., 33, will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 31, 2010 at New Hope Pentecostal Church with Rev. Kenneth Patten and Rev. Bobby Ratcliff officiating. Private burial will be at South Central Cemetery under the direction of Gill First National Funeral Home Winnsboro. Mr. Rushing was born on April 2, 1976 in Natchez, Miss., and died on March 29, 2010 in Jackson, Miss., after brief illness. He was a resident of Natchez, a former resident of Franklin Parish and attended the Pentecostal faith. He is preceded in death by a brother James Clinton Rushing; grandparents Rev. James Ira Caldwell, James Grady and Nellie Mae Rushing. Survivors include his father Raymond L. Rushing Sr.; mother Alice Alicia Gutierrez; step-father Lorenzo Gutierrez, all of Natchez; grandmother Dorothy E. Caldwell of Wisner; great-grandmother Mona Laurent of Wisner; special cousins "Big Sister" Michelle Ellerbe and "Little Sister" Mindy Ratcliff; also survived by a host of aunts, uncles and cousins.
