Franklin Academy picked up two district wins and posted an impressive non-district win over River Oaks in baseball action last week.

"We're hitting the baseball right now and our young kids are playing well," said Franklin coach Chris Sullivan. "We're scoring a lot of runs and we can continue to do that with the pitching we are getting. We should continue to do well. Right now it's a lot of fun and we just have to continue giving the same kind of effort."

Franklin defeated Union Christian 14-2 in its MAIS District 7A opener.

Dusty Barefield drove in five runs in the win, while Caleb Kratzer tossed a two-hitter.

Kratzer struck out eight of the nine batters he faced in Franklin's 17-0 win over Central on Friday in Winnsboro.

"They are just starting their baseball program back up," Sullivan said.

The Cougars defeated River Oaks, 14-10.

"That was a real good win for us," Sullivan added.

Franklin plays at Riverfield today (Tuesday) before hosting Huntington on Thursday. The Cougars visit Claiborne Friday.
