Riverfield takes Cougar tourney Riverfield defeated Franklin Academy 4-1 in the championship game of the Franklin Academy Tournament as the Cougars finished 3-1 in the tournament.
"It was a real good, competitive tournament," said Franklin coach Chris Sullivan. "We were tied 1-1 going into the fifth inning with Riverfield and they scored three runs. They have a solid club.'
Franklin defeated Tallulah 2-1 in their first game as Caleb Kratzer had a walk-off bases loaded double to win the game for the Cougars.
Franklin shut out Claiborne 8-0.
Tensas forfeited its game against Franklin because the Chiefs did not have enough players because of a senior trip.
Dusty Barefield was one of the top offensive players for the Cougars in the tournament. "I was especially proud of our defense," Sullivan said. "Over four ballgames we only had three errors."
Franklin hosts River Oaks today (Tuesday) before visiting Huntington on Thursday. |
