Annual Black Heritage Banquet
by Katie Norwood - posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
The Black Heritage Organization will present their annual banquet at 7 p.m., Friday, Feb. 26 in the Franklin Parish High School cafeteria.

The event is the highlight of an array of community activities designed to celebrate February as Black History Month. The keynote speaker for the event is Winnsboro native and educator Lisa McGhee Wilmore.

The Franklin Parish Black Achievers Association sponsored the sixth annual parade on Saturday. Wisner Mayor Allyn Jean Luckett served as this year's grand marshal. The parade route ended at Westside Park where revelers continued the celebration at various game booths and food vendors.

A special program hosted by Head Start and presented at the Winnsboro Elementary auditorium Thursday, paid tribute to historical figures of African-American decent. Students recited a prayer, the Pledge of Allegiance and performed several songs for the audience.
