Franklin Parish Academy's junior varsity boys are celebrating a district championship in the South State Tournament held in Claiborne Feb. 8 to13.

The Cougars, who were 18-3 during the regular season, rounding out a historic season with 11-1 record in tournament action.

"Basically, we had a team oriented to play. We played good defense and were very unselfish," said coach Paul Work.

"It's the first time we have ever had a team play this hard.

"Franklin Academy was able to best Claiborne in two games, 35-18 and 54-38; Riverfield in three games, 44-30, 35-20 and 52-30; Central in two games, 42-16 and 40-38; and Union Christian in two games, 38-19 and 47-22.

The Cougars suffered their only loss in the tournament in a narrow loss 34-32 to Riverdale, a team they beat 44-28 in another game.Standout players included Kalin Howington and Britt Grieme, who racked up an average of 10 points per-game for the year.
