Patriots have busy week playing Ruston and Carroll The Franklin Parish Patriots will be one busy basketball team this week as they play both Thursday and Friday night against good teams.
The Patriots will be visiting the Ruston Bearcats in district 3-4A action on Thursday night, the Lady Patriots will face Ruston at 6 p.m. with the boys to follow.
The game will mark the end of the district schedule for The Lady Patriots as they make that final push toward the playoffs this week.
For the boys, FPHS (22-6, 3-3) will host Carroll High School of Monroe on Friday night at 7 p.m. This game was originally scheduled for Dec. 5 but was cancelled due to inclement weather.
The Patriots are coming off a 63-52 loss at the hands of the Neville Tigers.
Neville came out and dominated on the glass and on the offensive end, smothering the Patriots from the beginning.
"We have not been playing good defense the last three ballgames," FPHS head coach Wystee Kerry said. "Neville played smart and played real hard. They got anything they wanted. We need to shoot the ball better this week as well."
Carroll will come to Winnsboro in first-place in district 2-3A. Carroll, a former district rival, returns many of their top scorers from 2009 when they battled toe-to-toe with the Patriots for a district championship. Xavier Lee is leading the Bulldogs with over 20 points per game average, Josh Tarver is another senior that is known for driving the lane and getting to the free throw line. Carroll has seen that their weak point this year has been at the free throw line. Carroll converted just 16-of-25 free throws against Richwood, the defending 3A champions, last week, but still found a way to come away with a 59-52 win because of their defensive pressure. It will lead into the final stretch of district play next week for the Patriots as they attempt to keep pace in the power ranking. |
