Story Archives: Delhi Gators to face Delhi Bears

Delhi Gators to face Delhi Bears
by Cody Futrell - posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
The Delhi Charter School Gators (4-19, 3-4) will be back in action this Friday night when they take on their cross-town rival, the Delhi Bears.

The Gators lost a district home game to the Ouachita Chrisitan School Eagles last Friday, 60—46.

A bright spot for the Gators was the emergence of another offensive weapon as DeMarius Brass scored a season-high 18 points and grabbed six rebounds to lead the Gators. Kent Speight has been the only scorer averaging double-figures this season for the Gators but the emergence of Brass as a viable second option on offense makes the Gators a much more dangerous team going forward.

Speight still had a good game with 15 points and six rebounds for Delhi Charter. OCS held the official lead on the boards by the end of the game 34-27. Levare Davis scored 17 points and had eight rebounds for OCS. Colby Webb scored a game-high 19 points and Zach Tarver added 13 for the Eagles.

As much as they wanted to get back into the game with the trey, the Gators struggled mightily shooting from beyond the arc against OCS. Delhi Charter was just 1-of-12 from the three-point line in the game. By contrast, the Gators made 8-of-16 free throw attempts in the second half. The defense of the Gators was pretty solid as they held OCS to just 21-of-43 shooting and forced 21 turnovers, one less turnover than the Gators themselves surrendered (20). The Delhi Bears (11-13) are lead by Marquise McDowll who is averaging nearly 18 points per game in district play.

Dayvion Overton has been scoring in double-figures as well this year. He scored 16 points and grabbed 15 rebounds in a game against OCS on Jan. 15. The Lady Gators will tip off at 6 p.m. and the Gators and Bears will tangle 10 minutes after the conclusion of that contest.
