Cougars top Union 47-46

Rilyn Taylor stole the ball and converted a layup with seven seconds remaining to give Franklin Academy a 47-46 win over Union Christian in Farmerville Friday.

Franklin was down to four players by the end of the game.

Caleb Kratzer, who played in spurts after giving blood earlier, led the Cougars in scoring.
"Caleb was at less than full strength," said Franklin coach Tommy Kimbrough. "We didn't know he had given blood until later. It was quite an effort by all the boys. They just don't have any quit in them. We are very proud of their effort."

Franklin led at the end of the first period, but trailed by nine points in the third quarter.
The win was the fourth of the year for the Cougars.

Franklin hosts Claiborne Feb. 2 before closing out the regular season at Central on Friday.

The South State Tournament will be held at Claiborne Feb. 8-13.
