Alpha Ann Gordy Armstrong
Funeral services for Alpha Ann Gordy Armstrong, 73, of Winnsboro, were held at Young's Community Memorial Funeral Home on Monday, Jan. 18, 2010, with Rev. Don Blackmon officiating. Burial followed at Holly Grove Cemetery under the direction of Young's Community Memorial Funeral Home in Winnsboro.
Mrs. Armstrong was born Oct. 1, 1936 in Wisner, and passed away Friday. Jan. 15, 2010 at LSU Medical Center in Shreveport. She was a resident of Winnsboro, a homemaker, and a member of the Norris Hill Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her father, James Manly Gordy; mother, Lou Ella (Humble) Gordy; sister, Madge Francis.
Survivors include two daughters: Pam Armstrong and Sharon Armstrong, both of Winnsboro; sister, Dixie Gaskin of Phoenix, Ariz.;
four grandchildren: Jonathan Armstrong, Patrick Valentine, Kimberly Valentine, all of Winnsboro, Christopher Valentine of Queensbury, NY;
special son-in-law who was like a son to her, Greg Temple of Wisner.
Pallbearers were Greg Temple, Danny Loftin, Brandon Gayle, John Armstrong, Johnny Ogden, and John Daniels.

Frances McNease Hampton
Graveside services for Frances McNease Hampton, 61, were held Friday, Jan. 15, 2010 at Kilpatrick's Serenity Gardens, Monroe with Rev. Greg Clark officiating.
Mrs. Hampton was born on March 26, 1948 in Monroe and died on Jan. 12, 2010 in Winnsboro after a brief illness.
She was a homemaker, a resident of Winnsboro and a member of Cedar Crest Baptist Church.
She is preceded in death by her husband, H. D. Hampton, father, J. R. McNease; brother, Shelby McNease; and a nephew, Ronnie McNease.
Survivors include her son Sidney Hampton and friend Emily Foster of Calhoun; mother, Minnie Lee McNease of Winnsboro; sisters: Betty McNease Reeves Bishop of Vicksburg, Miss., Joyce McNease Ferguson of Laural, Miss., Cathy McNease Haley of West Monroe; brother Enon McNease of Winnsboro; also a special family friend Carlo Mintello of Winnsboro; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Danny Boyd, Larry McCurley, David Moore, Brandon Reeves, John Shelby Reeves and Poncho Williams.

Journei C. Hollis
Funeral services for Journei C. Hollis, one day old infant of Karlesha Marzell and Joshua Hollis of Winnsboro, were held Friday, Jan. 15, 2010, at Richardson Funeral Home, Winnsboro. Burial followed at Cuba Cemetery in Gilbert.
Journei died Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2010, at St. Francis Medical Center in Monroe.
Survivors include her parents; grandparents Deandrae Marzell, Karlos Arthur; Arthur and Betty Harrell.
Lizzie Mathis
Funeral services for Lizzie Mathis, 76, of Dallas, Texas, formerly of Wisner, were held Sunday, Jan. 17, 2010, at Holly Grove Baptist Church in Wisner. Burial followed in the church cemetery, under the direction of Richardson Funeral Home, Winnsboro.
Miss Mathis died Monday, Jan. 11, 2010 at Charleston Methodist Hospital in Dallas.
Survivors include a daughter, Lucy Jones; sister, Rose Dillon; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.
Grandsons and nephews served as pallbearers.
Delphia Neal
Funeral services for Delphia Neal, 67, of Wisner were held Saturday, Jan. 16, 2010 at New Light Baptist Church. Burial followed at Hope Estate, under the direction of Richardson-Sims Funeral Home, Winnsboro.
Mr. Neal, a produce plant foreman, died Sunday, Jan. 10, 2010.
Odell Phillips
Services for Odell Phillips, 75, were held Saturday at the chapel of Gill First National Funeral Home with the Rev. Prentis Gandy officiating. Interment will follow at Coax Cemetery.
Mrs. Phillips was born on Feb. 17, 1934 in Winnsboro and died on Jan. 14, 2010 at Richardson Medical Center Rayville.
She was a resident of Baskin and a homemaker.
She is preceded in death by her parents: Benjamin F. and Mary Isabel Coody Wyles; husband, Travis M. Phillips Sr.; son Travis M. Phillips Jr.; sisters: Olie Simons, Nola Simons, Elsie Robinson; and a brother, Bennie Wyles.
Survivors include her daughter Ruth Ann Graham of Baskin; sons: Jerry Thornhill and wife Sherrie of Fayetteville, Ark.; William Oscar Phillips and wife Shelia of Enterprise, Miss., Frank Phillips of West Monroe; brother: Eugene Wyles and wife Jeanette of Hebert; sisters: Imogene Powell of Monroe and Roberta Staples of Texas; and 16 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Blaine Hardy, Chad Phillips, Daniel Phillips, Joey Phillips, Jeremy Thornhill and Joshua Thornhill.
Honorary Pallbearers were Jerry Day and Brad Phillips.

Billy E. Punchard
Funeral services for Billy E. Punchard, 71, of Fort Necessity, were held at Young's Community Memorial Funeral Home on Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2010, with Rev. Ronnie Wesberry and Rev. Cecil Grantham officiating. Burial followed at Highland Park Cemetery under the direction of Young's Community Memorial Funeral Home in Winnsboro.
Mr. Punchard was born Dec. 18, 1938 in Sicily Island, and passed away Monday, Jan. 11, 2010 at Plantation Oaks Nursing Home in Wisner. He had been a resident of Fort Necessity, a commercial fisherman, and a member of the Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris (Carlton) Punchard; father, George Punchard; mother, Mary (Powers) Punchard; two brothers: Johnny Punchard and Felton Punchard; sister, Ludie Punchard.
Survivors include four sons: Larry Punchard and wife Gina of Farmerville; Michael Earl Punchard and wife Sandra of Baskin; Steve Punchard and wife Vicki of Murfreeboro, Tenn.; David Punchard of Mangham; daughter, Gloria Jones and husband Ricky of Chatham; three sisters: Lois Morace of Bastrop; Faye Punchard of Jay, Fla.; Louise Bonner of Panama City, Fla.; a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends; also 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Larry Punchard, Michael Punchard, David Punchard, Roger Punchard, Johnny Punchard, R. J. Punchard, and Leon Punchard.

Jimmie Ray Shaw
Funeral services for Jimmie Ray Shaw, 56, of Winnsboro were held Saturday, Jan. 16, 2010, at Winnsboro Second Baptist Church. Burial followed at New Hope Cemetery in Liddieville under the direction of Richardson Funeral Home, Winnsboro.
Mr. Shaw died Sunday, Jan. 10, 2010 in Beaumont, Texas.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara B. Shaw, Crowville; sons: Jimmy Shaw Jr., Crowville; Russell Boley, Monroe; George Cooper, Texas; Micheal and Torquill Boley, Winnsboro; daughters: Sybil Boley and LaShonda Boley, both of Winnsboro; father, Wash H ayes, Detroit, Mich.; brothers: Harry Shaw, Wichita, Kansas; Eugene Fleming, Detroit; sisters: Mattie Works, Detroit; Crystal Hayes, Highland Park, Mich.; Althea Harrison, Debra Phillips and Jeralene Hatchel, all of Kansas; and five grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Jonathan Franklin, Alfred Boley, Bernard Boley, Mark Thomas, Patrick Richard, Varnando Buckner.
Hazel Parks Smith
Funeral services for Hazel Parks Smith, 85, of Wisner were held Monday, Jan. 18, 2010 at the chapel of Gill First National Funeral Home with the Rev. Francis Guy officiating. Burial followed at New Winnsboro Cemetery.
Mrs. Smith was born on Feb. 17, 1924 in Franklin Parish and died on Saturday, Jan. 16, 2010 at Mary Anna Nursing Home Wisner.
She was a resident of Wisner, a retired hairdresser and a member of the First United Methodist Church Wisner.
She was preceded in death by her parents: J. M. "Jim" and Martha Jane Liles Parks; husband George Smith; sisters: Callie Browder, Ethel Thompson, Mary Francis "Pug" Alford; brothers: Baskin Parks, Ramage Parks and Nolan "Son" Parks.
Survivors include her daughter, Janice Whittington and husband Billy of Lafayette; grandchildren: Leslie Whittington of Lafayette, Darrel Whittington and wife Celeste; sister, Jewell Doughty of Winnsboro; step daughters: Janet Guidry of Winnie, Texas, Emma Jean Harris of Apalachicola, Fla.; also survived by a host of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Jerry Don Alford, James Doughty, Donnie Parker, Steve Thompson, Carlyle Williams and Darrel Whittington.

Nita Evans Sparacino
Nita Evans Sparacino, a native of Winnsboro and a resident of Denham Springs, passed away on Monday, January 18, 2010 at her residence in Denham Springs at the age of 63.
Visitation will be at First United Pentecostal Church, Denham Springs on Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2010 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. and will resume on Thursday, January 21, 2010 from 11 a.m. until funeral services at 1p.m. conducted by Bro. Ray Johnson. Burial will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park, Denham Springs.
She is survived by her husband, Ray Sparacino; daughter, Monica Sparacino Dugas; son and daughter-in-law, Bryan P. Sparacino and his wife, Darrah Johnson Sparacino; sisters: Pam McMurray, Fran Evans and June Finley; brothers: Jerry Evans, Max Evans and Bill Evans; grandchildren: Hayden and Keston Dugas and one on the way;
a special niece, Karin Eddy and numerous other nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John D. and Willie Mae Evans and tw brothers: Clyde and David Evans.

Grant B. Whistler, 63, of Winnsboro, La, passed away January 11, 2010 at LSU of Shreveport.
Memorial services for Mr. Whistler were held January 16, 2010 under the direction of Griffin Funeral Home of West Monroe at The Family Community Church in Winnsboro, with Rev. Dee Boyte officiating.

Funeral services for Una Clara Shaw Woods, 93, of Winnsboro, will be held at Lighthouse Pentecostal Church on Thursday, January 21, 2010 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Jimmy Holland and Rev. George Ferrington officiating. Burial will follow at Chase Cemetery under the direction of Young's Community Memorial Funeral Home in Winnsboro.
Mrs. Woods was born Dec. 6, 1916 in Electric, Ark., and passed away Sunday, Jan. 17, 2010 at Plantation Manor Nursing Home in Winnsboro. She was a resident of Winnsboro, a homemaker, and a member of the The Lighthouse Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leslie Woods; father, Hollis Harvey Shaw; mother, Ettie Evelyn (Pool) Shaw; daughter, Glenda Kathleen Woods; son, Billy Ray Woods; sister, Evelyn Bigelow; and six brothers: Harvey Shaw, Carl Shaw, Buie Shaw, Hiram Shaw, Logan Shaw, and Bud Shaw.
Survivors include her son, Michael Woods and wife Judy of Gilbert; two daughters: Barbara Anne Barfield of Winnsboro, Patricia Fuller and husband Dan Dart of Riverside, Calif.; sister, Maggie King of Winnsboro; sister-in-law, Mary Lou Boles of Jigger; 12 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends; caregivers: Dorothy Nash, Sherry Miller, Vickie Smith.
