Lady Patriots take Block, 73-41

The Franklin Parish Lady Patriots will begin district play with a home game against the Wossman Lady Wildcats Friday night while the Patriots boys are taking a week off before their district slate begins. The Lady Patriots are on a two-game win streak after beating Block 73-41. Wossman is 7-9 on the year and has lost five of their last seven games.

Wossman lost to Ouachita Parish High School Friday night of Class 5A on Friday night in their last contest, 46-37.

The boys team beat Block High School 99-71 on Friday night with Brandon Sims leading the way with 23 points. Roosevelt Walker scored 22 points and Tyrelle Winn added 15 points for the Patriots. FPHS improved their record to 19-3 and have won eight games in a row.

The Patriots tried to schedule a game or two this week, but found no takers.
"We called everybody," FPHS head coach Wystee Kerry said. "Everyone either had games scheduled or was in the district schedule already."

Neville will visit the Patriots next Tuesday for a double-header beginning at 6 p.m. Franklin Parish has used the time off to work on the fundemental parts of the game. Free throw shooting and rebounding have been a major concern for the Patriots this week. Defense has been up and down for FPHS this season and they will need to improve in that area before the playoffs. The Patriots are currently 10th in the playoff power rankings for this week. Neville is No. 11 and the Wossman Wildcats lead the district as the No.7 team in the state's Class 4A rankings.

"Defensively we have to be solid," Offensive rebounding. Size issue. We have been going a bigger lineup and it helped us out. By far this is one of the toughest districts in the state. We could see four or five teams in our district make the playoffs."

The Patriots are currently favored against Wossman to win district 3-4A with Neville and Ruston playing good basketball at this time as well.
