Tutor.com is a free interactive online tutorial program that is offered through the Franklin Parish Library and can be accessed by anyone with a library card at http://franklinparishlibrary.org.

The program provides students in grades 4-12 and early college, one-on-one help with homework assignments in math, science, social studies and English daily during the hours of 3 – 10 p.m. The SkillsCenter Resource Library also helps students prepare for the LEAP, GEE, or GED with one-to-one assistance with math, science, social studies and English. The tutors provide tools for the students to apply themselves in order to work through the problem rather than giving them the answers. This is a confidence builder while it also teaches them how to use outside resources.

Tutor.com has recently launched a new learning suite to serve everyone. They have expanded their site to help adults who are searching for jobs and writing resumes. The Tutor.com Career Center also includes one-to-one tutoring designed for those who need help with writing a resume or cover letter, and have incorporated a proofreading service which allows users to have their writing reviewed in real-time with a tutor. In addition, the career specialist is there to assist with questions for adults about GED Prep, Citizenship, and going back to school.

Those utilizing the student center, the college center, or the career center programs communicate instantly with the tutors using instant messaging and a two-way white board that serves as a virtual chalkboard. There is no software to download and users can log on with the number printed on their library card from any computer, either public or private.

To get started, go to http://franklinparishlibrary.org, type in your library number and click the box where it says "You've got homework". Tutor.com is sponsored by Franklin State Bank and Winnsboro State Bank. For questions concerning Tutor.com, please contact Janis Smith at the Franklin Parish Library, 435-4336.
