Patriots take Jaguars, 74-62

The Franklin Parish Patriots are now 15-3 on the season after a 74-62 win on Wednesday over the Madison Parish Jaguars.

The Patriots jumped on top of Madison quickly and played solid defense throughout.

Roosevelt Walker and Brandon Sims scored in double figures to lead the Patriots.

FPHS has been steadily improving their play throughout the season and have been able to establish some depth in the month of December. That depth will likely help the most coming up next month when 2010 rings in the beginning of the district 3-4A season.

A new look district will now include a former Class 3A powerhouse, Wossman Wildcats of Monroe. One of the biggest challengers to the district crown for the Patriots last season, the Carroll Bulldogs have now moved down to Class 3A while the Neville Tigers are off to a hot start and could be the most improved team facing the Patriots this season.

The Ruston Bearcats will also be a big challenger to the crown as the move from 5A down to district 3-4A.

The Patriots match-up well with their district home this season. Wossman and Ruston may have more size on the inside, but the Patriots have two of the most electrifying scorers in Sims and Walker.

The Bastrop Rams are struggling through a 6-11 season and have lost seven straight contest going into the new year holiday.

The Patriots have some time before they face Neville on the 19th to begin district 3-4A play.

As they keep trying to figure a way to get all of their young talent plenty of playing time, they are still trying to eliminate those pesky turnovers and sporadic missed free throws that give the Patriots reasons to keep going back to practice even as the wins keep mounting.
