Story Archives: Patriots swat away Hornets

Patriots swat away Hornets
by Cody Futrell - posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
The Franklin Parish Patriots picked up a couple of stellar wins in the Mangham Dragon tournament last week and will play one game this week on the road against Madison Parish.

The Patriots downed the Class 3A Rayville Hornets in the opening game of the Mangham tournament. Rossevelt Walker and Brandon Sims scored in double figures as they have all season long for the Patriots.

Rayville, just like in a previous loss to Franklin Parish, had no answer on defense for Walker. Walker was the second leading scoer behind J.C. Winn last season for FPHS and now has filled the leadership role as good as anyone could for the Patriots.

Sims, one of the best players in district 304A over the past two seasons, has taken advantage of his situation and as defenses clamp down on Roosevelt in the second half, Sims has been the second half force on offense for the Patriots.

The win was the second in a row for the Patriots over Rayville. FPHS downed the Hornets 88-66 the week before they met in the Mangham tournament.

A young team in some areas, FPHS has grown up tremendously through the first few weeks of the season and continues to look like a contender from top to bottom.

Tevin White has been a solid additon to the varsity squad.

Franklin Parish has continued to work on improving their shooting at the free throw line and made strides in that area.

Sophomore Tyrelle Winn has been a rock for the Patriots. As part of a large group brought up from the junior varsity, Winn is one of the young talented shooters making strides and improving the chances that we will see the Patriots deep in the playoffs again in 2010.
