Posted 12/21/09 Robert Garnier Berry Funeral services for Robert Garnier Berry, 81, of Wisner, LA were held at South Central Baptist Church on Sunday, Dec. 20, 2009, with Rev. T. J. Boyd officiating. Burial followed at South Central Cemetery under the direction of Young's Community Memorial Funeral Home in Winnsboro. Mr. Berry was born Sept. 28, 1928 in Wisner, and passed away Friday, Dec. 18, 2009 at Franklin Medical Center in Winnsboro. He was a retired mechanic for the La. Dept. of Transportation, and a member of the South Central Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his father, Samuel Lee Berry; mother, Molly (Tines) Berry; first wife, Lillie Edna Perkins; two sisters: Gertrude Fradella and Betty Jean Berry; brother, Samuel Austin Berry. Survivors include his wife, Laura (Ensminger) Berry of Wisner; son, Willie Berry and wife Dale of Wisner; step-son, William Billy Lewis of Baskin; two step-daughters: Linda Lee Wilson of Wisner, and Sherry Lewis of Texas; two grandchildren: Samuel Berry and wife Brittany of Wisner; Kristen Berry of Wisner; four step-grandchildren: Jamie Wilson of Wisner; Laura Kelly of Seattle, Wash.; Winday Brown of Crane, Texas; McKayla Gillespe of Waco, Texas; three step-great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were Rodney Rials, Billy Oliveaux, Roger Ensminger, Tom Kerrigan, Ken Robbins, and W. H. Roach. Honorary Pallbearers were Dennis Berry, J. B. Daisy Mae Blackson Funeral services for Daisy Mae Blackson, 66, of Winnsboro were held Monday, Dec. 21, 2009 at Pilgrim Baptist Church. Burial followed at Morning Star Cemetery in Fort Necessity, under the direction of Richardson Funeral Home, Winnsboro. Mrs. Blackson died Wednesday, Dec. 16, 2009 at Franklin Medical Center. Survivors include her daughters: Jacqueline Blackson, Monroe; Sandra Brown and Brenda Blackson, both of Winnsboro; sisters: Della Mae White and Zenovia Nelson, both of Winnsboro; 13 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends. Pallbearers were Alex Wade, Roy White, Major Wiley, Micheal Rubin, Johnny Cooper and Louis Rubin.
Lavetria L. Carter Funeral services for Lavetria L. Carter, 28, of Baton Rouge, were held Saturday, Dec. 19, 2009 at River of Life in Winnsboro. Burial followed at Locust Hill in Extension, under the direction of Richardson Funeral Home, Winnsboro. Ms. Carter died Sunday, Dec. 13, 2009 at her home. Survivors include her parents, Johnny and Ella January, Winnsboro; brothers: Johnny R. January Jr., Sorrell January, John Toston, and Devontaye Toston, all of Monroe; sisters: LaKeisha Cooper and Sharetria Carter, both of Dallas, Texas; Crystal White, Winnsboro; Shelia Hollis, Katrice Johnson, Johneya, Hallie and Alexus January, all of Houston, Texas; grandmother, Cleo Carter, Winnsboro. Pallbearers were Detrick Corbin, Anthony Thomas, Donnie Ray Tate, Raymond Ross Jr., Anthony Ross, Jack Williams Jr., Ron January, Jermaine January, Quincy Kirby and John Williams.
Jessie Harris Cheffen Funeral services for Jessie Harris Cheffen, 66, of Wisner were held Saturday, Dec. 19, 2009 at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Wisner. Burial followed at Hope Estate Cemetery in Wisner, under the direction of Richardson Funeral Home, Winnsboro. Mrs. Cheffen died Friday, Dec. 11, 2009 at Franklin Medical Center. Survivors include her husband, Elmo Cheffen, Wisner; sons; Nelson Harris, Winnsboro; Micheal Harris, Monroe; and Derwin Cooper, Memphis, Tenn.; daughter, Katel Harris, Ferriday; brother, George Heard, Wisner; 15 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Pallbearers were Alonzo Harris, James Brown, Jarvis Harris, Willie Brown, Andre Evans, Joseph Bingham Jr.
Vivian Guillory Vivian Guillory, 59, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 17, 2009 at her residence. She was a native of Bastrop and lived in the Lake Charles area for the past 10 years. She was a self employed bookkeeper/notary. She was a wonderful selfless person when it came to the needs of others, always the first to help with her charasmatic positve and supportive personality. She had a love for life and was always happy and cheerful. She was a caring and loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, who will be loved and missed by all. Suvivors are her husband, Mark Guillory; one son: William Gary Grayson Jr. and wife Dana of Bastrop, La.; one daughter: Eve Marie Stromer and husband Joel of Lake Charles; two grandchildren: Morgan Marie Grayson and Mallory Elizabeth Grayson of Bastrop, La.; brother: Issac Carrington of Winnsboro; sisters: Catherine Taylor of Winder, Ga.; Lillian Carraway of Bastrop, La.; and Daisy Mae Taylor of Wisner. She is preceded in death by her parents: Issac and Rosey Carrington; brothers: Jack, Charlie and Robert Carrington; sister: Bertha Lawrence. Funeral services were held Saturday, Dec. 19, 2009 at Hixson Funeral Home Chapel in Lake Charles, with Bro. Guy officiating. Burial followed at Highland Memory Gardens. Gussie B. Davis Funeral services for Gussie B. Davis, 93, of Winnsboro were held Thursday, Dec. 17, 2009 at the chapel of Gill First National Funeral Home, with Dr. Bill Robertson and Rev. Howard Child officiating. Burial followed at Myrtle Memorial Cemetery. Mrs. Davis was born on Nov. 5, 1916 in Kokomo, Miss., and died on Monday, Dec. 14, 2009 at Charlyn Nursing Center Winnsboro. She was a resident of Winnsboro and a retired secretary with the Franklin Parish School Board and a member of Temple Baptist Church. She is preceded in death by her parents Herbert L. Davis Sr., and Bessie Jane Johnson Davis; brothers: Hoyt, Fraim, James, Louis and Herbert Davis Jr.; sisters: Minnie Pittman, Mamie Wilson, Mary Wilson and Bessie Hammitt. Survivors include her sister Claudine Smith of Winnsboro; brother Frank Davis of Winnsboro; also survived by a host of nieces and nephews. Burial followed at Ward Bend Cemetery, under the direction of Richardson Funeral Home, Winnsboro. Ms. Howard died Monday, Dec. 14, 2009. Survivors include her mother NaKisha Credit, step-father Kevin Credit; father, Carlos Wiggerfall; brothers: Kameron Credit, Nicholas Credit and Kevin Credit Jr.; sister, Kaylin Credit; grandmothers: Mary Howard and Belinda Wiggerfall; grandfather, Donald Smith. Mr. McCarta was born May 28, 1980 in Corpus Christi, Texas, and passed away Monday, Dec. 14, 2009 in Tensas Parish. He was a resident of Gilbert, a driller and derrick hand on a land rig, and a member of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Lennie McCarta; maternal grandfather, James Perkins. Survivors include his parents: William and Patty (Perkins) McCarta of Gilbert; son, Skyler McCarta of Calhoun, La.; daughter, Paige McCarta of Baskin; sister, Misty Ellerbe and husband Ray of Gilbert; maternal grandmother, Katherine Perkins of Monroe; aunt, Rhonda Kirkland and husband Kevin of Monroe; aunt, Carolyn Turner of Monroe; uncle, Randy Perkins of Monroe; and numerous family, friends, and relatives. Mrs. McCaskill was born July 26, 1959 in Odessa, Texas, and passed away Sunday, Dec. 20, 2009 at Glenwood Regional Medical Center in West Monroe. She was a resident of Jonesboro, a homemaker and hospital employee. She was preceded in death by her father, Louis Edward Waller; mother, Brenda Jean (Hopper) Waller. Survivors include her husband, Kenneth McCaskill of Jonesboro, La.; step-father, Charles Hopper of Bowling Green, Ky.; four children: Derrick Buchan, Dana Snyder, Jeffrey Buchan, and Leslie Slaughter of West Monroe; two sisters, Laurie Burkhalter and Jackie Price, both of Oklahoma; one brother, Louis Waller of Oklahoma; step-son, Cody McCaskill of Jonesboro; step-daughter, Ashley Patton of Jonesboro; aunt, Sandra Cox of Georgia; grandmother, Corrine Davis of Georgia; 10 grandchildren; and ahost of nieces and nephews.
