Story Archives: Patriots down Dragons

Patriots down Dragons
by Cody Futrell - posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
The Franklin Parish Patriots downed the Mangham Dragons 93-76 last Tuesday in a local rivalry game.

FPHS jumped out to a commanding lead and never looked back thanks to stellar defense and a hot hand by Roosevelt Walker who scored 35 points for the Patriots.

The teams traded baskets to begin the game, but the Patriots stepped up defensively.
Marcus Hardman scored 19 to lead the Dragons. Brandon Sims scord 21 while Kevin White added 19 points for Franklin Parish.

Even with a great week where the Patriots won four total games, the Patriots still found plenty to work on after missing some crucial free throws against Mangham.

"We found some areas we ned to improve on," FPHS head coach Wystee Kerry said. "We missed too many free throws and lay ups. That has to improve as we move forward."

The Patriots also won first-place at the Delhi Bear tournament last week. The Patriots beat Madison Parish 88-66 behind 25 points by Sims and 18 points scored by Tyrelle Winn.
FPHS next downed Rayville 88-71 behind 27 points from Sims and 16 points by Kevin White.

The Patriots then went on to dominate Simsboro in the championship game, 70-50 on Saturday. Walker scored 19 points and White added 16 for the Patriots.

"Last week was the best four game stretch since I have been coaching here," Kerry said. "We just have to build on that improvement."

Mangham will host FPHS and many more good teams in their on tournament this week beginning Wednesday.

Rayville and Franklin Parish will be the first game in the tournament.

"Rayville likes to push the ball," Kerry said. "We have to improve on our transition defense."

Franklin Parish has announced they have changed their game next Tuesday to a road game. Their next home game will be Dec. 27 against Madison Parish.
