Leo Honeycutt, the author of former Gov. Edwin Edwards' official biography, will be signing copies of his book Monday at Every Occasion in Winnsboro.

Honeycutt spent nearly half a decade working with Edwards on the book after the imprisoned, flamboyant politician hand-picked him to write his life story.

Store owner Wade Walley said he is proud that Honeycutt decided to stop in Winnsboro to promote the book, "Edwin Edwards: An Authorized Biography", which hit shelves earlier this week.

"I look forward to being a part of this because Edwards is larger than life," Walley said. "Whatever you think of his politics, he is a historic person in our state."

Edwards, who is 82, is currently serving time at the federal correctional institution in Oakdale following a 10-year conviction for working to rig the state's riverboat casino licensing process while serving his fourth and last term as Louisiana's governor. He is scheduled to be released from prison in 2011.

Honeycutt, widely known throughout the state for his work in broadcast journalism, is also the author of a novel, "Over the Edge."

His official biography describes him as a biographer, reporter, father and cook who is "an award winning television journalist of 28 years whose credits include CBS News, ABC's Good Morning America. NBC's Today Show, and CNN, as well an exclusive in the Oval Office with President Ronald Reagan (on his birthday in 1983), a rare interview with Muhammad Ali, and being the first Louisianan to conduct a live interview with space shuttle astronauts in orbit."

Honeycutt is an Oak Grove native who grew up in West Monroe and started his career as a reporter and anchor at KNOE in Monroe in the late 1970s. Today, he serves as president of Honeycutt Communications LLC.

Monday's book signing at Every Occasion, located at 703 Prairie Street, will begin at 2 p.m.
