Mary Virginia Carpenter
Funeral services for Mary Virginia Carpenter, 74, of Newellton, were held Monday, Nov. 30, 2009 in Gill chapel with Rev. Dewayne Butler officiating. Burial followed in Providence Cemetery under the direction of Gill First National Funeral Home in Winnsboro.
Mrs. Carpenter was born to the union of her parents William and Lucille Thomas Hendry on Jan. 17, 1935 in Winnsboro, and passed from this life on Saturday, Nov. 28, 2009 at Plantation Manor Nursing Home in Winnsboro. She was a member of Bethany Baptist Church. She is preceded in death by her parents: William Hendry and Lucille Thomas Hutchison; and brother: Sherman Jerry Hendry.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years: Otis Carpenter of Newellton; two daughters: Susan Carpenter of St. Martinville, La., and Cynthia Carpenter Aaron and husband, Kenneth of Farmerville; one sister: Bobbie Ulmer and husband, Coy of Winnsboro; three step-grandchildren and one step-great-grandchild; several nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Charlie M. Johnson
Services for Charlie M. Johnson, age 65, of Winnsboro, were held Friday, Nov. 27, 2009 at Wayside Pentecostal Church near Winnsboro with Rev. Tommy Cotton officiating under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home of Winnsboro.
Mr. Johnson was a retired carpenter and passed away on November 24, 2009.
He is survived by three daughters: Sheilliahe Zimmerman, Belinda Davis, and Danyell Johnson; two sons: Wesley Johnson and Charles Ray Johnson; two grandchildren: Rae Lyn Johnson and Jayden Thibeaux; one brother: Dennis Johnson; two sisters: Jimmie Sullivan and Jeanette Simmons.

Rev. Donnye H. Cooper
Funeral services for Rev. Donnye H. Cooper, 75, of Vidalia, were held at First Pentecostal Church Of Wisner on Friday, Nov. 27, 2009, at with Rev. George Bates and Rev. David Clary officiating. Burial followed at King's Cemetery under the direction of Young's Community Memorial Funeral Home in Winnsboro.
Mr. Cooper was born Jan. 24, 1934 in Wisner, and passed away Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2009 at Plantation Oaks Nursing Home in Wisner. He was a resident of Vidalia, a minister, and a member of the First Pentecostal Church of Wisner. He served in the Navy.
He was preceded in death by his father, Henry Cooper; mother, Alpha "Sis" (Roberts) Cooper; brother, Rev. Travis "Buddy" Cooper; two sisters: Estelle Boothe and Elaine Cooper; step daughter, Marlene Rogers Asbill; special friend, Irene Parker.
Survivors include four sisters: Katie Crain of Winnsboro; Maggie Roberts of Wisner; Doretta Boothe, Nobie Rowley and husband Darryl, all of Harrisonburg; three daughters: Delaine Self and Doana Cooper, both of Wisner; Gracelyn Dilley and husband Erwin of Shreveport; son-in-law, Steve Asbill; grandchildren: David "Biggum" Self and wife Kelli, and Dustin Self, all of Dallas, Texas; Wayne Mosley and wife Lucinda of Austin, Texas; Jessica Dodson and husband James of Llano, Texas; Courtland Dilley and Cooper Dade Dilley of Shreveport; great- grandchildren: Madison and Kaleb Dodson, Erin and Nate Mosley, and Ian "Lil Um" Self.

Hazel Talbert Cowan
"Who can fathom your goodness, O Lord? You have taken the fire and out of it fashioned the numberless lamps that decorate the night."
Hazel Talbert Cowan, 84, passed away Nov. 25, 2009, at her home in Walker, La. Hazel never lost her zeal to survive and fought her ill health courageously.
Mrs. Cowan grew up in the country farming community of Swampers, La. Following a stint as a Navy certified welder in New Orleans, La., during World War II, she worked for the Rural Electric Authority in Winnsboro, until the mid-1960s. At that time she and her husband, Jesse K. Cowan Sr., started J.K. Cowan, Sr. Contracting Company selling and hauling construction materials (dirt, sand and gravel) in Denham Springs, La., which she headed until the day she passed.
She will be missed by her family, friends, and everyone who ever had the pleasure of knowing her. She brought adventure to us all with her zest for life and her ability to be plain-spoken. She had a will of iron, a heart of gold and a knack for sharing stories from her past.
Mrs. Cowan is survived by her only daughter, Dorothy Burt McBride, Baton Rouge; two grandchildren, Darwyn Williams, Baton Rouge, and Russell Williams, Jersey City, NJ; two great-grandchildren, Wesley Williams, Wickenburg, Ariz., and Anne Katelyn Williams, Baton Rouge;
She is survived by her beloved sister, Mildred Talbert Sullivan, Winnsboro, and her daughter and granddaughter, Sherry Sullivan Martin, Shreveport, and Miriam Martin, New Orleans, and her beloved sister, Grace Talbert Hayden, Alexandria, with her family Janice Hayden McKay, Alexandria, Frankie Hayden Kirkwood, Walker, Abbie Hayden Montgomery and Johnny Montgomery, Walker, with her family Curtis Baxter and Melissa Baxter, Walker, as well as, Mary Hayden Lemoine, Pineville, and her daughter and granddaughter, Elizabeth Lavespere and Natasha Lavespere and Johnny Hayden, Pollock.
Mrs. Cowan was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse K. Cowan, Sr. and her parents Lawrence and Lula Talbert. She was also loved and supported in life by Michael and Janet Grimmer and John Grimmer, Walker, La. and by her two dear companions Minnie Johnson, Denham Springs, La. and Bernetta Scott, Baker, La. She was loved and protected by the last in a long line of her favored German Shepherds, Bullet.

A family service was held at Providence Memorial Cemetery near Ward III Community in Winnsboro, on Saturday, November 28, under the direction of Gill First National Funeral Home in Winnsboro.

Hettie Lee Thompson Dampier
Services for Mrs. Hettie Lee Thompson Dampier, age 85, of Wisner, will be at 10 a.m. today (Wednesday), Dec. 2, 2009 at First Baptist Church in Wisner, with Rev. Thomas Peoples officiating. Burial will follow in Oakley Cemetery near Gilbert, under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home of Winnsboro.
Mrs. Dampier was a life-long member (60+ years) of the First Baptist Church in Wisner, a Sunday School Teacher and loved to take care of her children and grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Cecil Dampier; and by one sister and four brothers.
Survivors include her children: Phillip Dampier and wife Martha, Jerry Dampier and wife JoAnn, Lulu Johnson and husband Russell, Donnie Dampier and wife Judy; grandchildren: Carol Hunter, Kim Chelette, Donna Jones, Glen Dampier, Katie Chabert, Mack Dampier, and Max Johnson; seven great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers are: Glen Dampier, Mack Dampier, Max Johnson, Daniel Hunter, Hogan Hunter, and Jim Grant.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. till 7 p.m. Tuesday, December 1, at First Baptist Church in Wisner.

Patsy Ray Duncan
Funeral services for Patsy Ray Duncan, 71, of Wisner, were held at First Baptist Church, Wisner on Monday, Nov. 30, 2009, with Rev. Thomas Peoples officiating. Burial followed at South Central Cemetery under the direction of Young's Community Memorial Funeral Home in Winnsboro.
Mrs. Duncan was born Aug. 20, 1938 in Wisner, and passed away Friday, Nov. 27, 2009 at Franklin Medical Center in Winnsboro. She was a resident of Wisner, a homemaker, and a member of the First Baptist Church of Wisner. She was a member of WMU, Eastern Star, Sicily Island Garden Club, and Women's Club.
She was preceded in death by her father, William Lee McMahan; mother, Hezzie Lee (Townsend) McMahan; daughter, Charlene Duncan; brother, William Edward McMahan.
Survivors include her husband, John Duncan Sr. of Wisner; son, William Duncan and wife Jeana of Gilbert; daughter, Ann Duncan Cook and husband Chip of Ringgold; brother, Charles M. McMahan and wife Ruby of Wisner; three grandsons: Josh Price of Ringgold; James D. Price of Wisner; John A. Duncan and wife Anna of Sicily Island; three great-grandchildren: Alyssa Price and Hunter Price of Wisner; Laci Duncan of Sicily Island; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were John Duncan, James Price, Josh Price, James Zeagler, Keith Taylor, and Marvin Ferrington.
Honorary Pallbearers were deacons of First Baptist Church of Wisner.

Billy Joe Fleming
Funeral services for Billy Joe Fleming, 55, of Wisner were held Saturday, Nov. 28, 2009, at Newlight Baptist Church in Wisner. Burial followed at Hope Estate Cemetery under the direction of Richardson Funeral Home, Winnsboro.
Mr. Fleming died Sunday, Nov. 22, 2009, at St. Francis Medical Center in Monroe.
Survivors include his wife, Vivian Fleming, Wisner; son, Joe Austin Fleming, Wisner; parents, Cora Williams, Wisner; father Joe Fleming, Las Vegas, Nev.; brothers: Kelvin Williams, Arlington, Texas; Dexter Williams, Wisner; sisters: Dorothy Jean Atkins, Monroe; Monica Wilkins, Pennsylvania.
Pallbearers were Kelvin Williams, Dexter Williams, Cardarial Atkins, and Terrance Atkins.

Mervin L. Hensley
Mervin L. Hensley, 83, of Fort Necessity, died Saturday, Nov. 28, 2009, after a lengthy illness. He was born to the union of the late Clayton and Lizzie Bell Cherene Hensley on March 17, 1926, in Mansfield, La. He married Evelyn O. Booker on February 9, 1946 in Mansfield and relocated to Fort Necessity in 1965.
Mr. Hensley served his country in WWII. He retired from Tennessee Gas Pipeline Co. in June 1986. He spent his retired years enjoying his wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, fishing, gardening and hunting. He was a member of Fort Necessity Baptist Church, a veteran of the US Army, and a former Mason.
He is preceded in death by: son, Rudy Daniel; his parents: Clayton and Lizzie Bell Hensley; brothers: William and Harvey Hensley; sisters: Ruby Cunningham, Reba Rogers, Helen Fields, and Amy Smith; granddaughter: Melany Hensley Marcus-Poole.
Mr. Hensley is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 63 years, Evelyln; his children and their spouses: Joe and Janice Hensley; Sue and Charles Scott, all of Fort Necessity, and Lynn and Debbie Hensley of Choctaw, Okla.; brother, Curtis Hensley and wife Johnnie; and sister, Ruth Wright. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, 16 great- grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Pallbearers were Jason Scott, Clayton Hensley, Adam Underwood, Hank Knox, Brandon Reed, and Greg Booker.
Honorary pallbearers were all current and retired employee associates of Tennessee Gas Pipeline.
Services were held at Fort Necessity Baptist Church on Sunday, Nov. 29, 2009 with Brother Bobby Ensminger and Benton Moore officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Jessie Claudette Hoffman Johnson
Funeral services for Mrs. Jessie Claudette Hoffman Johnson, 63, of Winnsboro, were held Friday, Nov. 27, 2009 at Wayside Pentecostal Church with Rev. Tommy Cotton officiating.
Mrs. Johnson passed away Monday, November 23, 2009. She was a member of Wayside Pentecostal Church. She was a native and lifelong resident of Franklin Parish.
Survivors include her three daughters, Sheilliahe Zimmerman, Belinda Davis, and Danyell Johnson; two sons, Wesley Johnson and Charles Ray Johnson; two grandchildren, Rae Lyn Johnson and Jayden Thibeaux; and one sister, Bobby Wooten.

Walter Jay McDaniel
Funeral services for Walter Jay McDaniel, 53, of Baskin, were held at Young's Community Memorial Funeral Home on Saturday, Nov. 28, 2009, with Rev. David Molsey officiating. Burial followed at Baskin Cemetery under the direction of Young's Community Memorial Funeral Home in Winnsboro.
Mr. McDaniel was born Aug. 14, 1956 in Monroe, and passed away Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2009 at his residence in Baskin. He was a retired truck driver with Cold Spring Express, and a member of the Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Beverly "Peanut" (Fife) McDaniel; mother, Alice (Todd) McDaniel; father, Steve McDaniel; brother, Steve Allen McDaniel; sister, Connie Graham; father-in-law, Frelson Fife; mother-in-law, Christine Fife; sister-in-law, Kathy MaGee; niece, Tammy Graham; and grandson, Aaron Woods.
Survivors include three daughters: Pamela McDaniel of Tulsa, Okla.; Tammy Phillips, and Tina McDaniel Camp and husband Robby, all of Baskin; two brothers: Mike McDaniel and David McDaniel, both of Baskin; three sisters: Pat McDaniel of Baskin, Lillian Hopkins of Rayville, Ann Williamson of Baskin; Chihuahua dog-Tiny; 10 grandchildren and a host of family and friends.
Pallbearers were Jamie Payne, Justin Jackson, Bill Hales, John Daniels, Josh Williams, and Shelby McKenzie.

Terry Dwayne 'Bo' Milton
Terry Dwayne (Bo) Milton, a resident of Hartford, Ala., died Monday afternoon, Nov. 23, 2009 in Cedar City, Utah, from injuries received in a trucking accident. He was 45 years old.
Funeral services were held Monday, Nov. 30, 2009 at Shiloh Baptist Church with Rev. Bryan Wagner officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery with Shepard Funeral Home of Hartford directing. Memorial contributions may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children, Office of Development, 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, Fla. 33607.
Survivors include his wife, Karen Milton, Hartford; a son, Derrick Milton, Hartford; two daughters and a son-in-law, Melissa and Roger Ready, Hartford, Melissa Womack, Bastrop, La.; three grandchildren, Colin and Abigayle Ready and Laythe Womack; his parents, Wyatt and Dixie Milton, Winnsboro; a sister, Connie Franks, Gilbert; several nieces, nephews and a host of other friends.
Serving as pallbearers were Robert Earl Skinner, Elijah Mooring, Harvey Sizemore, Jerry Moseley, Jacky Smith and Mark Johnson.

James Farrell Rials
Funeral services for James Farrell Rials, 80, of Wisner, were held at Holly Grove Baptist Church on Sunday, Nov. 29, 2009, with Rev. Mickey Gallup officiating. Burial followed at Holly Grove Cemetery under the direction of Young's Community Memorial Funeral Home in Winnsboro.
Mr. Rials was born March 12, 1929 in Brookhaven, Miss., and passed away Friday, Nov. 27, 2009 at his residence in Wisner. He was a cotten farmer and fish farmer and a member and deacon of Holly Grove Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his father, Tom Rials; mother, Maudie (Martin) Rials; six brothers: Carl Rials, William Rials, Hezie Rials, Luke Rials, J.Q. Rials, Thurman Rials; one sister, Carrie Hawkins
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Willie Katherine (Braswell) Rials; four sons: Herman Rials and wife Ida of Wisner; Dennis Rials and wife Jennie of Maurepas, La.; Dave Henry Jr. and wife Brenda of Natchez, Miss.; Carl Henry and wife Carol of Gosnell, Ark.; daughter, Judy Boothe and husband Glen of Wisner; three sisters: June Lachney of Gilbert; Annie White of Ferriday; Velma Calhoun and husband Bobby of Vidalia; 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Pallbearers were Ronald Beach, Carl Haring, Mike Beach, Darrell Beach, Bubba Dale Ellerbe, and Keith Walker.

Allie Lee White
Funeral services for Allie Lee White, 98, of Sicily Island, will be held Saturday, Dec. 5, 2009 at 11 a.m. at Martin Jr. High School in Sicily Island. Burial will follow at Pilgrim Baptist Church Cemtery, under the direction of Richardson and Sims Funeral Home, Winnsboro.
Mrs. White died Wednesday at Cornerstone Hospital in West Monroe.
She is survived by six sons; two daughters; 51 grandchildren; 133 great-grandchildren; 98 great-great-grandchildren; six great-great-great-grandchildren.

Adrienne Sisk Wilson
Services for Adrienne Sisk Wilson, 90, of Winnsboro, will be at 2 p.m. today (Wednesday), Dec. 2, 2009 at Oak Grove Baptist Church, Winnsboro with Rev. Corey Bruce and Craig McCain officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home of Winnsboro.
Mrs. Wilson was a lifetime member of Oak Grove Baptist Church, Order of the Eastern Star, retired educator having taught at Fort Necessity for 36 years. She was preceded in death by her parents: Gilbert and Sallie Wiggins Sisk; husband: Freeman A. Wilson Sr.; grandson: Van Wilson; brother and sister-in-law: Wade and Hazel Sisk.
Survivors include daughter: Ganeath McCain and husband, Jerry; son: Freeman A. "Sonny" Wilson Jr.; sister: Ruth Cuny and husband, John A.; seven grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers are: John Wilson, Danny Sisk, Jed Wilson, Clark McCain, John Danna Cuny, and Paul McKinley.
