Baskin Baptist Church supports Operation Christmas Child
by Katie Norwood - posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
Volunteer members of Baskin Baptist Church are once again participating in Operation Christmas Child, the largest children's charity organization in the world.

The Life Center at the church serves as a relay station for Franklin and Tensas parishes to collect and distribute items that are packaged in shoeboxes and sent to a needy child. These shoeboxes, filled with soap, washcloths, toothbrushes and paste, coloring books, school supplies and many items are included with scripture and stories of Jesus Christ.

"Last year was our first year to serve as a relay station," said Mary Robinson, relay center coordinator. "We have already exceeded the amount we shipped last year."

Robinson said 16 volunteers from Baskin Baptist Church have been receiving Shoebox Collection items all year to be shipped. This year, the shoeboxes will be sent to underprivileged children in Boone, N.C. After the items have been received at the relay station, the church congregation meets on a Sunday night to pack the boxes to ship.

The cost to ship one shoebox is approximately $7. Robinson said her team had shipped 1,000 this year and would be collecting items for another week.

Anyone who would like to participate in Operation Christmas Child, please contact Mary Robinson at 318-248-3329 or Myrtis Long, asst. coordinator, at 318-248-3466. You may also call the church at 318-248-3369.

Franklin Graham, Dr. Bill Graham's son, is the president of Samaritan's Purse, which is the parent organization of Operation Christmas Child.
