Patriots top Vidalia, 90-84

Franklin Parish High's 2009-10 boys squad did something Wednesday night that last year's Patriot team could not do in four tries - beat Class 2A state runner-up Vidalia.

Despite losing eight starters, the Patriots defeated a Vidalia team returning six seniors and two All-State players 90-84 in the first round of the Tensas Parish Tournament in St. Joseph.

"It was a great win," said Franklin Parish coach Wystee Kerry, whose team defeated Ferriday 93-43 in its opener the night before. "Last season we let them control the boards. We did a better job on the boards Wednesday night. I am very pleased and encouraged with our play early in the season.

Brandon Sims led Franklin Parish with 22 points, while Roosevelt Walker added 21 and Tyrell Winn 20.
