Chamber to host Christmas activities The holidays are fast approaching and the Winnsboro-Franklin Chamber of Commerce is busy getting ready to welcome a host of Christmas shoppers and visitors to Franklin Parish.
"We're all about promoting our business community and Franklin Parish," said Lindy Price, Chamber President. "The annual Christmas events sponsored by the Chamber are aimed at bringing people into the parish to shop in our stores, eat in our restaurants, and stay in our motels. And, these activities bring great joy to the home folks as well."
The annual 'Shop Franklin First' event will kick off the holiday season of giving with a four week shopping spree geared at promoting participating business partners and encouraging people to spend their holiday shopping dollars in Franklin Parish. The event will begin the 17th of November and run until Dec. 21. A drawing for prizes will be held at the close of the event.
In addition to the four week shopping event, Chamber member businesses will have the opportunity to 'rent a booth' at the Princess Room to display their wares during the evening of the Children's Parade. Cost for each booth space is $25 for Chamber members and $40 for non-members.
To light the way for holiday shoppers, the "Trail of Trees" located along the walking trail on Highway 15 south in Winnsboro will again shine with holiday cheer. Chamber member businesses or individuals who wish to participate in the "Trail of Trees" event may purchase one or more trees through the Chamber office at a cost of $25 each plus $10 for a sign depicting the business and/or honoree's name. Cost to non-members is $35 for each tree and $15 for each sign requested.
These live trees will be between 6 and 9 feet tall and will be put up and removed by the Chamber as a courtesy to participants. All sponsors have to do is add lots of lights and decorations. The Trail of Trees will be lit during the official Christmas tree lighting ceremony sponsored by Wellspring on Tuesday, Dec. 1.
The Children's Parade will be held on Thursday, December 3rd and children 12 years of age and younger are invited to decorate their bikes and trikes and join in the fun. A special appearance by Santa is expected at the event.
On Friday, Dec. 4 at 7 p.m., the annual nighttime Christmas Parade will roll through the streets of Winnsboro with lighted floats, marching bands, and a multitude of entrants bringing holiday cheer to Franklin Parish. As a special treat, a spectacular fireworks display will light up the sky over Winnsboro immediately following the annual night time Christmas parade.
Through the generosity of Boyce Stone and the Franklin Cotton Warehouse, float builders for the parade will now have the option to store their units year-round under roof at the warehouse just north of Winnsboro.
Christmas events information and parade applications are available on the Chamber website at www.winnsborochamber.com or call the Chamber office at 435-4488. |
